Reflections
Up is on.
Down is off.
Switches and
light bulbs convince.
Feeling up?
You’re on.
Feeling down?
You’re off.
(we rue the difference)
Up is light.
Down is dark.
(anything else means
you’ve lost your spark)
This may be true in
electricity’s world,
but when it comes
to you and me and
the universe’s swirl -
passion and purpose flow and ebb;
light and insight dawn and set.
And when we embrace this
truth
we find delight in every
step.

is not
there,
but I seem to
try to
be both
and
am failing.
“And what do you do?” she asked
generically.
I’m not sure, I said
truthfully.
“What do you mean?”
Well, what do you call an
English, literature, and theatre education major who is
theologically trained to a Master’s Degree and
knows plumbing, electrical, and leadership,
publishes prosetry every. single. day.,
interviews interesting people for podcasting and
partners with those who want to be better at life?
(silence)
“I’m not sure what you call that.”
Exactly.
Failure,
success,
they often
cross-dress.
Best to welcome them
with the same
deference.
Every day -
every. single. day -
the hungry blog
needs feeding.
So I write
and post
to fulfill
what it’s craving.
Some days,
feeding is easy,
like opening a 50lb bag,
nuggets spilling on the landing.
On other days,
someone forgot to go to the store,
I’m looking for broken pieces,
in cracks and crevices,
scrambling.
And so it goes -
every. single. day. -
sometimes profound
and
sometimes rambling.

“Give credit
where credit
is due”
seems simple
enough to do.
Yet,
attributing blame
and
slinging shame
a more likely
when the day is through.
Instead,
when rising from bed,
or
before resting your head,
give someone a
“Thank You”.
Meta-emotions
equals
how I feel about how I feel.
Meta-physical
equals
how I feel about how I look.
Meta-spiritual
equals
how I feel about all the names for God.
but
metta
equals
how I am invited to feel
about
everything.
See the magic
in another,
the sparkles of
joy
from engagement and strength.
Let them in on the secret.
Make space for them to shine.
Invite those
who see your magic
closer.
Because who doesn't want more
sparkles
and
rabbits pulled out of a hat?
