Reflections
What the world
needs -
good
work and works
done quietly.
These
scattered revelations -
a thought here,
a note there,
a bit of wisdom brought to mind -
become consequential
when gathered over
time.
Am I useful?
For what?
To whom?
Asking these questions
alone -
in your room
shades drawn
breath shallow -
leads no where.
(Better to ask:
to what use might
I put myself,
just for today?)
A day’s work is
a story.
Let it have
a beginning,
a middle,
and (most importantly)
an end.
Tomorrow.
Tomorrow!
Tomorrow!!
my mind frets,
What about tomorrow?
Today,
today,
today,
I enjoin.
Longing, loving, languishing, laughing, lounging -
life happens today.
Let’s not miss out.
If overnight
success
shows up
invite her in for
cake and a cup
of coffee.
Expect a short visit.
if you show me
introduce me
give me a hint
about you
your art
why your eye
has a glint -
the product,
finished,
holds more
connection, power, emotion
in it
the bits and bobbins,
crossed out words,
all the
pieces and parts culled
from the herd -
these fragments left out
of your work,
your art -
show them to us,
make us a part of the
process
so we can see
the messiness of life
and creativity.
for the finished product
is magnificent -
even bold! -
but seeing the road
you traveled
is even more captivating
to behold.
Start where you are.
Use what is at hand.
Care.
If i share this with you -
will you know what to do?
will you handle with care?
will you return it unbroken,
not smashed in a dare?
Whatever your answer,
give this some thought,
whatever I hand over to you,
comes with my
heart.
