JUDGMENT IS SUSPECT

Humans are terrible risk assessors.

Getting in a car is much more

dangerous

than

flying in a plane,

but what do people fear more?

Life,

work,

relationships

are never as hard

and

infinitely more

difficult

than you imagine.

When you set out,

what you fear

will become smaller

and

dangers you didn’t know

existed

will come

out of nowhere (seemingly).

Best to take the same attitude

with them all.

Don’t give them too much

import

nor

too little.

Remember, your judgment is suspect.

THINGS I MIGHT SAY

Oh my, the things I might say.

But what

would be,

could be

helpful to you

today?

Do you need a

little lift,

a big boost,

or

a small kick in the caboose?

Does it need to be a long hug

or

a strong pull of the rug?

No matter which one I choose,

in the end

it’s what

you

do,

how

you

show up,

how

you

care,

the way

you

take action,

that determine whether my words

gained

any traction.

NON-LINEAR PROGRESSION

As winter turns to spring,

there are days

when it seems

spring takes a few steps

forward

and

days when she takes a few steps

back

before coming into her own.

One would think nature

should have

perfected

this change

by now

since she’s been practicing for

ages.

But, if this is the nature of change,

forward then back,

clear then stormy,

why do we think

our lives,

our work,

our plans,

our projects,

our dreams,

will move forward

on a linear progression?

PERSONAL RECKONING

When your mind wearies

and says,

“No”

to everything.

You may be in need of

a personal reckoning.

When your body tires

and calls for

rest.

You may be under some

duress.

When your fire wanes

to

a single ember.

This is the time to remember.

A fulfilled life

is more then

go

and

do

and

burn.

Being well

is also

stop,

and

rest

and

kindle.

WASPS IN SPRING

Innocently, they fly

bumping off of

windows and wood.

Minding their own business

so it seems.

Their spring business is real estate,

finding the perfect place to place

the nest,

hidden, but accessible.

You won’t notice them again until

they’ve taken up residence,

finding out when you get

stung.

The same goes for those

little,

creeping,

thoughts of self-doubt.

You don’t notice them until

they’ve taken up residence

in

your mind,

your vocabulary.

They make a nest

and

you get

stung.

Better to notice them when they appear

and

make your mind’s

real estate

unattractive for settlement.

WORKING WELL-BEING

We know that well-being

increases with income.

Up to a point.

Billionaires don’t have significantly more

well-being than someone making $100K.

So,

are you working

in order to

be better,

feel better,

have better relationships,

contribute more to the common good

and increase your well-being?

Or,

are you chasing money

because you think

more income

equals

more

happiness?

Better make sure the ends justify the means.

HATCHING

Tight quarters.

Dark in here.

I need to move.

I need to be free.

What is this keeping me in?

I begin to struggle.

I peck hard against the barrier.

First tentatively.

Then, harder.

A crack!

Some light!

Peck harder.

Push with my whole body.

More light.

More freedom.

Then, I’m out.

Air. Light. Space.

Now what?

Like a bird has to crack it’s own egg

in order to be hatched,

our life’s struggles

can make us stronger,

and lead to re-birth.

But it’s going to take everything you’ve got

and

no

one

can

do it

for

you.

UBER EXECUTIVE

50-ish female.

Former Vice-President of Operations.

She left the “rat race”.

Now, President and CEO

of driving her Toyota Corolla.

The promise of this gig economy

is self-determination,

running on the wheel

of your own creation.

But the only way

to be truly free

is to change your mentality.
