When you finally give up
on the project
of fixing,
of saving,
of setting others straight
you find that there is
only one project left.
The project of love.
Reflections
When you finally give up
on the project
of fixing,
of saving,
of setting others straight
you find that there is
only one project left.
The project of love.
This time,
it’s going to be different.
This time,
I’m not going to let anything stop me.
This time,
I won’t wait.
This time,
I’m not afraid to fail.
This time,
I will persevere.
This time,
I will get up more times than I fall.
This time,
I realize the only time I have is
this time.
Every experience is magical.
Some people say,
“Knowing what I know now,
I’d like to go back to…”
as if they wouldn’t make
different mistakes
the second time around.
You cannot turn back time.
You cannot undo
mistakes and missed opportunities.
Guilt,
anger,
regret,
and
what ifs
cannot change the past,
but
they can
stop you from living
in the present.
Instead:
learn from your missteps,
seek courage,
make decisions,
and
focus on the path
you are walking now.
When you do,
you begin to say,
“Knowing what I know now,
I choose to…”
and life begins anew.
The answers to the questions
of how to make
ourselves healthier,
our relationships more loving,
our work meaningful,
our world peaceful,
are not hard to find.
The difficulty is in
living the answers.
“Windows is checking for a solution to the problem.”
How many times have you seen
a similar notification
and
nothing changed,
nothing happened?
What if we became the kind of people
who were searching for a solution
even before
the problem presented itself?
If the world seems
ugly,
twisted,
and
unkind;
If it seems
muted,
dark,
and
beauty is hard to find;
there is something
sure and true.
The world hasn’t changed.
What has changed
is you.
What is inspiration?
Is it a momentary rush
causing one to
stay up all night,
paint a picture,
write a manifesto?
Is it a sudden burst of
energy and insight
leading to a new discovery?
Is it a lightning strike of
divine guidance which
briefly
illuminates and enlightens?
No.
Doing the work,
caring,
cultivating,
being vulnerable,
getting it wrong until you get it right
Every. Single. Day.
That’s inspiration.
Inspiration doesn’t strike,
it grows.
When the state
tells
the energy company
they cannot build
any more power plants,
they had best become experts in
energy management.
They better find ways to make
themselves and their customers
more efficient
and
get clear about
who and what
needs the most power.
For humans,
our energy
is expressed in
time.
The universe has decided
you have only
so many
hours,
minutes,
seconds
in a day,
so many days
in a week,
and so many
weeks
in a year.
You don’t get to build
any
more
time.
I think you know what needs to be done.
Playing dress up,
putting on makeup,
why do we like Halloween so much?
It’s one day adults
allow themselves
to play.
It’s also when
we reveal
we’ve been
wearing masks
all along.
(And there’s candy,
don’t forget the candy.)
