Standing at the kitchen sink,
wearing a work shirt, socks, and underwear
(no pants),
my grandfather would do the dishes
every early morning.
I never asked him why.
Why leave them till morning?
Why get up so early?
Why not put on pants?
I think it was something about
the routine,
the ritual.
Washing dishes in the morning
was a task easily completed
to start the day with a win.
What’s your “washing the dishes”?
Why not do something every morning
which sets you on a path of action?
No pants required.
