EMPTY HANDS

“It is unavoidably true:

hands must be emptied before they can be filled anew.” --Mark Nepo

We can fill our lives with

possessions,

experiences,

and obligations.

We can hold on to these along with

hurts,

hopes,

and yesterday’s glory.

Soon, just like collecting

shells along the shore,

our hands are full.

We can hold nothing more.

And so,

learning to let go

opens us to embrace what may come.

Otherwise, we spend our lives

clutching what was.

(What do you need to let go

to embrace what is waiting for you?)
