PRETENDER

“Let’s play pretend.”

Kids have no problem pretending.

It’s a game.

Adults feel like we are pretending,

every day.

It’s doesn’t feel like a game anymore.

We wonder if anyone really knows who we are.

We fear if they did, they wouldn’t like what they find.

So we pretend.

And feel like someone we aren’t--

inauthentic,

unreal,

an imposter.

Instead, what if we pretended to be the best of ourselves,

loving,

committed,

passionate.

Every day bringing the best to

our self-talk,

our work,

our relationships.

What if we made it a game again--

believing,

acting,

giving

our very best

until the one we are pretending to be

is the person we have become.
