ASK FOR WHAT YOU WANT

We are taught

to put ourselves last,

to make sure everyone else

gets what they want first.

It’s a wonderful way to remind us to think of others,

to care for others.

The dark side is when we take it too far,

and never speak for ourselves,

never ask for what we want,

and secretly wonder why we are

angry and unsatisfied.

Aren’t we doing what we were taught?

Isn’t it supposed to bring us joy?

Asking for what you want does not mean

others don’t get what they want or need.

It means you are paying attention to

your needs,

your desires,

and

when you ask for what you want,

you give permission for others to do the same.

Today, ask for what you want.
