We lock ourselves in cells with invisible bars.

No one can see them,

but we feel them.

We think they keep us safe,

from ourselves,

from others,

from worry,

from fear,

from shame.

They do keep us safe,

from wonder,

from joy,

from mercy,

from grace.

After a while, we get used to them--

like a baby elephant gets used to being tied up with a certain length of rope--

forgetting we have the key to set ourselves free.

What keeps you in your invisible cage?

When will you set yourself free?
