Days set aside for
feasting,
celebrating,
reflecting,
often seem forced upon us.
Instead of being thankful,
we feel anxious
and we worry
about the gravy being lumpy.
We get overinvolved with
how everything looks,
the veneer,
and so
a day of invitation
turns into
a day of obligation.
What if these feast days,
simply reminded us of our common humanity,
our deep desire for meaning and purpose,
and how much we actually need one another?
What if these days of forced celebration
Invited us to make every day
a day to be grateful?
