YOUR OWN TEAM

On the playground,

chosen captains

pointed to the next desired

mate for the team.

They didn’t have to point at me,

I was the last one standing.

Chosen by the lack of other choices.

For years, I waited for others

to name me, to point at me,

and kept waiting.

Then I made a decision

to form my own team and

fill my roster.

I was the first selection.

In wanting so badly to be on someone else’s team,

I forgot I needed to choose myself.

Be on your own team.
