HOLD THE ROCK

When you work

at something

meaningful,

beautiful,

insightful,

each day can feel

like pushing a boulder uphill.

This is good, hard, work.

But,

if all you do is

strain and push,

you will soon

expend all your energy.

Imagine running a marathon

at sprint speed

with teeth clenched.

There are times,

necessary times,

to breath deeply,

hold the rock steady,

see how far you have come,

and remember why

you're pushing in the first place.
